Sun Valley Garden Center Hiring:

Retail Garden Center Manager

The Sun Valley Garden Center is Located in Bellevue, ID.  We service the Wood River Valley.  This includes the towns of Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey and Bellevue.  The Sun Valley Garden Center was established 35 years ago and was the Valley’s first retail garden center. We are looking to fill the RETAIL GARDEN CENTER MANAGER position. 

We are looking for a self-motivated individual that is enthusiastic and energetic.  This individual would be responsible for managing the day to day operation of the Garden Center as well as the ordering and inventory management of the plant material and hard goods.  This individual’s attitude should create an environment that motivates and energizes staff and customers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Seasonal ordering of plant material.
  • Seasonal ordering of garden supplies and hardscape products.
  • Hiring and supervising all retail employees.
  • Responsible for pricing all product.
  • Responsible for organizing and hosting special events.
  • Creating strong relationships with customers.

Job Qualifications and Experience.

  • College Degree.  Horticulture or Business a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.  Experience with POS systems and Bluebeam software a plus.
  • Sociable.  Able to work well with others.
  • Back ground in USDA Zone 2-5 plant material a must.  Including bedding plants, perennials, shrubs and trees.
  • Knowledge in gardening and gardening techniques.
  •  Knowledgeable in landscape operations/practices. Not a must.
  • Prior Experience in the horticulture field.
  • Prior Experience in management.
  • Ability to work outside and lift over 25lbs.

Work Hours and Benefits

  • This is a full-time year-round position. 
  • Position includes paid time off, bonus, and a Simple IRA Match.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or  equivalent work experience

Retail Nursery Assistant with Closing Responsibilities, Part-time

  • Performing administrative closing tasks including following up on all calls/emails, closing till, ensuring daily tasks completed
  • Assisting customers with plant guidance and selection based on their specific needs, including asking appropriate questions and looking at customer pictures to make thoughtful recommendations
  • Coaching customers on proper planting and plant care techniques
  • Directing customers to appropriate garden tools, supplies, pesticides, etc. based on described needs or problems
  • Processing transactions on the POS system including holds, gift cards, customer orders, customer requests for consults, delivery and planting, etc. 
  • Assisting with merchandising and facilities maintenance 
  • Performing nursery related tasks such as watering, deadheading, pruning, fertilizing, etc.
  • Unloading plants, hard goods and other materials from delivery trucks
  • Pricing and stocking of plants, hard goods and other materials
  • Developing a wonderful rapport and relationships with our customers
  • Serving as a resource to our customers for gardening information
  • Acquiring and sharing reliable knowledge about Treasure Valley gardening and landscaping with our customers


  • Solid, broad knowledge base about plants and gardening in the Treasure Valley
  • Positive, can-do, solution-oriented and initiative-taking attitude and work ethic
  • Attention to detail and comfortable with repetitive type work and following procedures
  • 1-2 years of work in a  retail nursery or similar retail environment
  • Able to take direction, work independently and balance multi-tasking
  • Team oriented, ability to work with others to achieve goals
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to life up to 25 pounds and easily bend, lift and squat regularly
  • Able to work outside in all types of weather year round
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft office word, excel, outlook, and experience with POS system functions
  • Willingness to learn and implement knowledge and skills in the nursery
  • Educational background, training, and certifications as applicable
